Ford Motor Company (AKA Ford) is an American multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, USA. It was founded by Henry Ford and incorporated on June 16, 1903. Cars and trucks are sold under the Ford brand. Luxury cars under the Lincoln brand. By 1914, the moving assembly line and manufacturing philosophy of Henry Ford were known around the world as Fordism. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is controlled by the Ford family.

UK subsidiaries Jaguar and Land Rover, were acquired in 1989 and 2000, then sold to the Indian automaker Tata Motors in 2008. Ford owned the Swedish automaker Volvo from 1999 to 2010. In 1938 til 2010, Ford marketed Mercury in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Middle East.

During the 2008–2010 automotive industry crisis, the company struggled financially but did not have to be rescued by the federal government.

Ford is the second-largest U.S.-based automaker, the sixth-largest in the world. Though joint ventures in China (Changan Ford), Taiwan (Ford Lio Ho), Thailand (AutoAlliance Thailand), and Turkey (Ford Otosan), Ford produced 4.4 million automobiles, and employed about 177,000 employees worldwide.

Named after Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford. Edsels were developed in an effort to give Ford a fourth brand to gain market share from Chrysler and General Motors. Establishing the Mercury–Edsel–Lincoln Division. In 1958 Edsels introduced multiple advanced features. Introduced during a recession, the Edsels were considered over-hyped, unattractive, and the vertical grille was said to resemble a horse collar. Edsel was discontinued by the Ford Motor Company in 1960 after a loss of over $250 million.

A machine shop owned by Horace Elgin Dodge and John Francis Dodge in the early 1900s, supplied parts to Detroit automakers. They began building complete automobiles under the "Dodge Brothers" brand in 1914. The factory located in Hamtramck, Michigan was the Dodge main factory from 1910 until it closed in January 1980. The company was sold to Dillon, Read & Co. in 1925 before being sold to Chrysler in 1928. The Dodge brand continued through multiple ownership changes from 1998 until 2009. Daimler-Benz AG between 1998 and 2007. Sold to Cerberus Capital Management. Then in 2008–2010 automotive industry crisis resulted in the Chrysler Chapter 11 reorganization and being acquired by Fiat. Another merger occurred in January 2021, between FCA and the PSA Group to form Stellantis, making the Dutch-domiciled automaker the second largest in Europe.

General Info / Body data plate / VIN differen...

I have 68 Firebird. The body plate is stamped 22467. The VIN is 22367. Can anyone tell me why they are different?

From the defunct Maxwell Motor Company,the Chrysler Corporation was founded in 1925 by Walter Chrysler. Acquired by Daimler-Benz in 1998. The company operated as Chrysler LLC 2007–2009, then Chrysler Group LLC 2009–2014. Acquired by Fiat S.p.A in 2014. In 2021 Stellantis North America owns the auto manufacture.

Formed in 1911 as the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. Through a reverse merger in 1918 it became a division of General Motors. ;D

Created by a dispute between Henry Ford and his investors in 1902. General Motors purchased the company in 1909. The division of GM builds luxury vehicles. 8)

CHECKER / Who was Checker Motors?

Through a merger of Commonwealth Motors and Markin Automobile Body. The Checker Cab Manufacturing Company, moved to Kalamazoo in 1923 and was renamed to Checker Motors in 1958. Last built in 1982. Defunct January 16, 2009 :'(

BUICK / Who is Buick?

Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company started in 1899 and ran until 1903 when it became the Buick Motor Company.
In 1908 it became a division of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors (GM).
