Valley Pan:

 
The valley pan provides access to the lifters and push rods.
It's located under the intake manifold and is bolted to the webs of the engine block. Stamped out of steel it has a passage that allows crankcase gasses to pass through a positive crankcase ventilation valve (PCV Valve) on top of the pan. A gasket seals the pan to the heads and block.
